Bring Out Your Lead 2023 Galleries

The tenth annual Bring Out Your Lead event was the first one I’d been to, and I was instantly taken aback by the atmosphere. Incredibly relaxed and highly welcoming to all who walked through that arch and into the carriage court.

We began the day walking around and looking at the tables, with the Epic 40k and Helsreach both standing out as incredible works. We managed to discuss how the tables were built with both of the Creators and each had fantastic little tricks to share.

An absolute highlight was being able to listen to the legendary John Blanche as he spoke to people about his work and his interests. The man holds court like few others.

Kev Adams was there as well, sculpting away for charity. He was making heads based on people and the money raised was to be given to charity. I sat for far too long watching a master at work discussing all sorts of topics and hopefully not overstaying my welcome. A truly fascinating experience.

A few of us found a table to sit at to paint and chat which was a lovely chilled experience. All sorts came to join us, each holding some form of treasure (and a copy of Dark World at one point) which drew my attention in a multitude of ways.

The exhibition:

How do I begin to describe the delight of seeing those very minatures from the early White Dwarves of my youth? Seeing these incredible bits of history in the pristine flesh (lead) brought a giddy childlike excitement to the forest which I’d not felt in a long time. Be it the actual Genestealer Cults limousines, or the pre-production slottabase Heroquest sculpts, everything deserved having the time taken over to be lovingly examined. Incredible.

Helseach: How Curtis managed to keep control of such a sprawling, chaotic game is testament to the man. It was like nothing I’d ever seen before and genuinely amazed and wowed me.

All in all, a fantastic experience and one I would not hesitate to do again

Finally: Helsreach.
