Fluffenhammer Community: Homebrew Hobbying
The Fluffenhammer Community posts return in force with this series asking about peoples's homebrew narratives and stories behind their armies. We begin with Mike Varlow’s Guard, known as the Mistral Rangers. If you would like to take part in this series, you can contact us at Fluffenhammer@gmail.com
The Mistral Rangers hail from the famous death world renowned for the deadly landsharks. A high gravity world of marshes, swamps and mountains ill fitting for wheeled, tracked or hover vehicles.
Astra Militarum regiments raised from Mistal are famed for their heavy walkers and abilities to tackle adverse terrain and heavily damaged urban environments.
The 142nd Mistal Rangers were making significant inroads to the prime cluster on Invictus Secundus when they were called to a halt. Captain Varjak stormed into the command centre, furious at the change in orders. He halted mid tirade, colour draining from his face at the sight of the inquisitorial seal.
It's bearer smiled in a cold and infinitely deadly way that made the entire command centre come to a tense standstill.
"Your assets have been commandeered by the Ancient order of the Sigilite Precept. Your new orders are to retrieve the holocron data crystals of St Evelin DeSinter from the Prime Cluster Basilica and transport to the safety of the Balor System".
From that day on the 142nd Mistral Rangers have formed the vanguard of the Sigilite Precept's mission to secure the treasures of mankind's history imperilled by the sundering of the Imperium.
The Inquisitors of the Precept frown upon the use of abhumans but missions often had need of hard hitting close combat specialists. Stranded beyond the Emperor's light in the Imperium Secundus the fabled Adeptus Astates were scarce. Casualties from within the regiment however were not.
With the aid of the Adeptus Mechanicus Tech Priest Xerxes IX ancient STC technology was used to cybernetically enhance the heavily injured guards men and women into technological nightmares of Ceramite and steel. The constant pain of their augmentation needs careful drug control leaving these brute squad units dull but savage in combat. The Preceptors were pleased.
Where large scale warfare is requires the treasured ordnance walkers of the Mistral fabricators are brought to the field to lay down a hail of devastation before the Rangers sneak in and retrieve the latest holy treasure they have been ordered to retrieve.
