Legio Damnatorium - The Road To Hell Is Paved With Nuln Oil
SMoving on with the bladeguard, a friend of mine had started a new space marine army painted as the Sons of Orar. They are a successor chapter of the Ultramarines with their progenitor being Captain Orar, who was a very successful Ultramarine captain. However, rumors say that Orar may have been an Alpha Legionnaire and even Omegon himself. Since I wanted to add more unique chapters to the army and because I really liked the story I decided to paint up a Sons of Orar legionnaire with a freehand of the captain on his shield.
I had planned to pose him in a dramatic pose but on the day I was about to start the build I stumbled accross a bunch of images of marines pulling their blades. Looking at the bits available in the Indomitus box I realized I could kitbash this together. I just needed an additional bit from the Space wolves upgrade sprue that I had purchased to at some point finally add a space wolf to the legio.
I am really happy with the result, and once more played around with OSL but also the fire and focused more on sculpting the flames with higher detail.
As stated, the legio was lacking a space wolf! So it was time to add one! I had purchased both the old and new upgrade sprues so I went for it and decided, since I will likely only have one or two of these guys in the army, to go all in! I added the axe, pelt, helmet and played around with the pose. I also decided to paint Leman Russ on his shield.
I had before this project been requested for tutorials on how I do my freehands so I decided to do a tutorial. Available on my YouTube channel (Search for Algerothen on youtube). The tutorial isn't very good but it seems to be helpful to some at least :)
That brings us to the end! The last model is of the custom chapter the Soul Haunters created by Thunderwulfen over on Instagram. The chapter is quite hardcore and spiritual so I wanted to give the model a more grimdark feel! This included how I did the fire, so instead of doing the normal flames I decided to make them "dirtier" like you would see in a tyrefire or dieselfire. However, I, as usual, didn't have any good idea how to do the effect so I decided to experiment! I think the result came out quite well and I am really happy with the final effect.
The model once more got a freehand, this time of Belisarius Cawl, who according to the chapters lore created them. However, rumor has it that their gene progenitor is Lorgar of the Word bearers. So, I depicted this on the shield by having Cawl hold a small vial with the word bearer logo on it.
So, that's it! Everything I have painted so far! One army more or less but it has been tons of fun and I am not done yet! To give you a bit of a sneak peak into the future I:
1. Still have the Indomitus box to finish, including the outriders that I have some larger plans for!
2. Winning AOP2020 actually came with a reward in the form of a combat patrol box! So new marines on the way! Reinforcement sort of speak.
3. I have already ordered a two-legged model from ForgeWorld! It will be a larger project, let's put it that way, with a bit of freehanding but more lore behind it! This model has been requested several times from people and I really hope you will be able to give it justice. Feel free to speculate widely what model it might be ;) hehe.
If you want any more info (which I doubt) let me know! Also, feel free to use this info however you want, both the lore elements and "my story" :)
Cheers.
